Pondview Gewurztraminer Riesling 2011 ($13.95, Winery and LCBO #260380) — A lovely aromatic white showing lifted floral notes with plenty of lychee and lemon. Zesty lemon-lime, delicate melon and lychee flavours present on the palate. Style is off-dry and fruit forward with nicely balanced acidity.

Pondview Bella Terra Chardonnay 2011 ($25, Winery and LCBO Vintages #347922) — The nose exhibits ripe pineapple, toast, lemon and apple with hints of caramel. On the palate, sweet pineapple, lemon and baked apples prevail with enough acidity to balance things out beautifully. A rich, creamy chardonnay with a long finish.

Pondview Bella Terra Cabernet Sauvignon 2010 ($34.95, Winery) — Aromas of blackberries, sweet spices and chocolate notes lead to a palate bursting with juicy dark berries. There are hints of black licorice and mocha on the lingering finish. A big, rich wine with stalwart tannins that is drinking nicely now but will cellar well for 5+ years

Ravine Sand & Gravel Cabernet Franc 2011 ($18.95, Winery) — Savoury herbs and red fruits – think raspberry and cherry – present on the nose along with a touch of wood and spice. There are lots of ripe, juicy berry flavours on the palate with a nice seam of acidity and some mineral notes. A versatile wine that will pair just as well with grilled or roasted red meats as it will with your favourite pizza.  

Pillitteri Protagonist 2011 ($15.95 – Winery, LCBO Vintages #294025) — This lively blend of Gewurztraminer and Riesling shows lots of peach and floral notes and an intriguing ginger spiciness. The sweetness is balanced by focused acidity for a refreshing finish. Pair with spicy fare like Pad Thai or grilled chili-dusted shrimp.

Pillitteri Merlot 2010 ($23, Winery) — The nose exhibits ripe black cherry framed by a little woodsmoke and white pepper. On the palate, the cherry element pushes its way to the front followed by dark chocolate, smoke and earthy notes, and a bit of vanilla. Tannins are firm, but not overly, giving nice structure to the rich fruit. Pair with pepper-crusted beef.
